The Times They Are A-Changin’. The Second Vatican Council. Art and video-history exhibition
Temporary exhibition

Sixty years after the conclusion of the Second Vatican Council, the Foundation for Religious Sciences presents a visual and documentary exhibition dedicated to one of the most profound and transformative events in the contemporary history of the Church. Conceived as part of the initiatives for the 2025 Jubilee, the exhibition captures the spirit of a Council that succeeded in combining tradition and openness, shaping a new language for faith, interreligious dialogue, and the Church’s relationship with modernity.
The project, curated by FSCIRE secretary Prof. Alberto Melloni, offers a journey of knowledge and experience, where history intertwines with the voices, images, and artistic expressions of an era of radical change.
Organised on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Council’s conclusion, the exhibition retraces the key moments of that historic season through an itinerary of artefacts, photographs, and testimonies that convey its spirit of renewal. Alongside these materials, the exhibition features artworks created during the same years as Vatican II, not conceived for historical-theological purposes but capable, due to their contemporaneity, of evoling the cultural and spiritual climate of the time. In this perspective, the exhibition presents works by Manzù, Colombo, Rotella, Accardi, Munari, Burri, Manzoni, Schifano, Bianco, Kounellis, Festa, Biasi, Pomodoro, Isgrò, Fontana, Rama, Dadamaino, and Yves Klein.
A dedicated soundtrack - sbeginning with the iconic Bob Dylan song that lends its title to the exhibition - completes the immersive experience by evoking the cultural and social atmosphere of the 1960s.
A timeline that intertwines the history of the Church, Italy, and the wider world, highlighting the Council’s legacy and the enduring relevance of its core themes: peace, justice, and dialogue.
With the contribution of the Hera Group, which renews its commitment to supporting culture and promoting the region’s historical and artistic heritage.
